Article Marketing and an Epiphany

Today I had an Epiphany –

I have read many, many, many reports on Article Marketing and Affiliate Sales, including Bum Marketing. I even paid the $47 for the Bum Marketing on Crack report.

About 8 months ago, I setup a couple of WP Blogs based on the many, many, many reports’ instructions to market with articles. Basically the instructions were:

1. Buy a domain with the product name — add review to the end of it.
2. Setup a WP Blog on the domain with plugins to help with SEO.
3. Write several posts about the product — making sure keyword density is good.
4. Write a few articles about the product, make sure the bio box links to the WP Blog;
and submit to Article directories — especially Ezinearticles.com
5. Create a Squidoo lens about the product and make a few posts linking to the WP Blog.
6. Write a couple more posts spread out over a few weeks.

That’s it.

Well, the first blog I did, got only (1) product sale, and it was MONTHS after I had done all of the above.

But … the 2nd blog I compled has made close to $1000 in affiliate commissions! At first, I ran a few Google adword ads to drive traffic to the blog. I got just a couple of sales and the ROI was barely breakeven. Then Google started “liking” my
blog, and I made over $400 the 3rd month it was up.

I had to change merchants because the original merchant stopped tracking sales (a CJ merchant) — go figure. Once they were changed out, I would get one or two sales a month. Then it died for a couple of months.

Yet, in January, sales picked up again — and I just posted another sale today!

Here’s my EPIPHANY …

If I had continued to make Affiliate Product WP Blogs using the above formula — say one or two a week, I would now have 40 to 50 blogs going with probably at least 20 - 25 averaging $100 to $150 a month affiliate commissions. That would mean $2000 to $2500 a month income. BOINNNNNG — that’s me hitting myself in the head.

SOOOOO… Right Now, I am going to start making … ummmm 1 or 2 wp blogs using the above formula.

PLUS … In my next post I will be revealing a product that gives us the very LATEST 2008 internet marketing secrets.

See you soon!

And, may you all prosper, prosper, prosper and receive infinite riches!

New Rapid Action Profits Features + Discount Coupon

A couple of months ago,Rapid Action Profits Fountain
I wrote a review of Rapid Action Profits (RAP) (opens in a new window).

RAP is the e-commerce script that easily outperforms the so called ‘7dollar’ script, because it delivers so much more for the marketing of your products. Actually, RAP is a fountain of benefits. Read the review.

The owner, my good friend Sid Hale, has added some nice extra features that will add value to your marketing campaigns.

Here’s a very brief recap of the changes in this release, but you’ll really have to look at the Upgrade Guide to appreciate how really neat some of these are:

  • Ability to broadcast mail to “front-end” customers and OTO customers separately
  • Separate reporting of front-end sales and OTO sales
  • Support for “auto” opt-in feature for ALMPST ANY auto-responder script (whether self-hosted or a 3rd party service)
  • Transfer to Paypal breaks frames to avoid potential Paypal problems if your affiliates use frame cloaking techniques
  • Optional 2-tier affiliate payments (such a simple statement for such a powerful feature)
  • Header and Footer templates now totally optional (no empty files required)
  • Ability to edit various “system” emails (i.e. the automatic email containing the download link).
  • “Add New Product” will automatically add default system emails for the fraud email, the download email, and the TAF email
  • “Add New Product” will automatically “Add New Salesletter” as the default salespage.html
  • Optional Discount Coupon code that would automatically discount the price for any visitor with the code.
  • New Statistical report “Sales by Referrer”

From its release, back in September 2007, Rapid Action Profits has been a great success. Not only because its quality is so overpowering, but also because it was priced way too cheap.

Sid has come to his senses and raised the price to $127.00 (was $67), but …

I have a Discount Coupon (new feature!) available for anyone really interested in this one-stop small business e-commerce script that expires at midnight, the 7th of February (that’s next Thursday night).

If you use this discount coupon, you’ll get Rapid Action Profits at the old price of $67.

I don’t want to give this out to everyone.

If you’re really interested in setting up your own e-commerce marketing center, leave a comment below telling me that you earn the Discount Coupon.

If you can convince me, I’ll get back to you via your email address with the Discount.

New Wordpress Plugin: Cron Jobs Alternative

If you hate cron jobs or haven’t figured out how they work, here’s some good news. David Pankhurst developed a new Wordpress plugin that really makes it easy to set cron jobs.

A cron job is a time-based scheduling service in a Unix operating systems.

If you want some program or code to start at a pre-defined time, you just enter the program name (or php page name) and the time or frequency it should be executed.
A little software program which runs constantly in the background of the server checks every minute to see if any of the scheduled jobs need to be executed. If so, it executes them.

Each line of a cron file represents a job and follows a particular format as a series of fields, separated by spaces and/or tabs. Each field can have a single value or a series of values.

cron jobs on unix

Here’s what these fields mean (simplified):

# +—————- minute (0 - 59)
# | +————- hour (0 - 23)
# | | +———- day of month (1 - 31)
# | | | +——- month (1 - 12)
# | | | | +—- day of week (0 - 6) (Sunday=0 or 7)
# | | | | |
* * * * * command to be executed

But hosts present the information to be entered in different ways, which makes it more difficult to use cron jobs.

standard cron jobs

Some hosts even don’t allow cron jobs.

So, that’s why David came up with an alternative: a ‘cron job’-like plugin.
Very easy to install and use. In the ‘Manage’ tab you just specify what you want to be executed and when.

cron jobs utopia

That’s it!

To have this plugin work properly, your theme MUST have the function wp_footer included in it, like this:
<?php wp_footer(); ?>
</body>
(most newer themes already have this in footer.php or possibly index.php).

Also, be aware that this plugin does NOT setup a cron job. Instead, it uses your blog page views to do the timing, in other words, it won’t work until someone requests to see a page from your blog.
For this reason, times are approximate and not exact, and if your blog gets few visits, the timing will be affected. If you need precise timing, it is best to use a systems timer like cron.
Checking URLs frequently (or many URL’s) can affect blog performance. This plugin prevents you checking a URL more often than once every 5 minutes.

Now, let me emphasize that I do NOT use this plugin. I’m quite familiar with setting up cron jobs so I use them.
But I know from experience, that it can be hard to set these crons up. That’s where this plugin may come in handy.
You can download it at Cron Job Plugin.

If you use this plugin, please let me know how you’re doing.
